Our History

Rooted in Faith, Guided by God

The history of Richland Baptist Church is a testimony of God’s faithfulness and the perseverance of His people. From our humble beginnings to the present day, the Lord has continually guided and blessed our church family.

Richland Baptist Church first began in the country in a little white building, where faithful members gathered to worship and serve. To support the ministry, members often sold dinner plates to raise funds for the church. From the start, God’s hand of blessing was upon this small but dedicated group of believers.

After several years, tragedy struck when the original church building burned down. Yet even in loss, God provided. A building was donated to the Richland family, and with the help of members and friends from the community, it was repaired and made into a house of worship.

Later, the congregation was led to purchase a building from the Tom Public School system. This new facility served as a place of ministry and worship for many years, blessing both the church and the surrounding community.

In 1999, the Lord led Rev. Dr. Glenda F. Threadgill to accept the pastoral leadership of Richland Baptist Church. Through prayer and God’s guidance, Pastor Threadgill has faithfully served for more than 25 years. Under her leadership, the church has seen spiritual growth, expanded outreach, and the fulfillment of a vision for a new sanctuary.

By God’s grace, the first service in the new worship facility was held in 2017. Since then, Richland has continued to grow in membership, strengthen ministries, and add new leadership through Associate Minister Rev. Dr. Burtchal Griffin.

Richland has been blessed by the faithful leadership of many pastors and ministers who have served through the years. We honor their dedication and thank God for their service:

Rev. T. Threadgill, Rev. James Harris, Rev. Gilford, Rev. O.L. Threadgill, Rev. Rolfe, Rev. Hughs, Rev. Jim Ellih, Rev. Blake, Rev. Cotton, Rev. Johnny Williams, Rev. Steven Greene, Rev. Herbert Smith, Rev. Nathan Threadgill, Rev. Nathaniel Threadgill, Rev. Percy Hooks, Rev. Dr. Burtchal Griffin, Elder Earl Williams, and Minister Billy Henderson.

From a small country church to a thriving congregation, Richland Baptist Church has always been guided by God’s hand. As we look to the future, our purpose remains the same: to walk in righteousness, to keep our eyes fixed on Christ, and to be a light to the world.

To God be the glory for all He has done, and for all He will continue to do through Richland Baptist Church.
